Getting better
This app takes a lot of getting used to as it uses Markup language instead of what you are used to with Word or Pages. There aren’t good, clear instructions on how to use it, you just poke around and search the website. There is a lot more written stuff about version 1 than version 2, although you eventually learn that all of the Markup documentation for Version 1 is the same for Version 2. One total aggravation about Markup is that it is rather limited. For instance, you can bold or italicize but you can’t underline. Email tech support is slow and mostly you get answers like, “This will be addressed in a future version." However, the longer I use it the more I like it. It still has two large problems. (1) Syncing your journal makes it not private so you have to trust Day One with your personal life. (2) The automatic header info for the location and weather of your journal entry is hit and miss. Mostly miss for the rural locations where I write my entries.
UPDATE: Version 2.1 is better and the improvements are making this app quite good. I have also had a couple of very helpful exchanges with tech support and give them 5 stars. Since my original review, I have also started using the iOS app and it is very good on both the iPhone and iPad. Every release makes Day One easier to use. Automatic headers for location work fine if you are in a populated area, but they don’t work well in rural locations. If you are in a rural spot, you have to pick your location from the map (in order for it to be accurate) and then edit the date or time in order to pick up the weather data.
