Mixed feelings.
Been using the version 2 from the beginning (as well as version 1 for quite some time) on everyday basis.
Unfortunately, there’s only two points for which i can give a star:
1. seeing the outdated skewomorphic design go
2. ability to attach several photos to the entry.
As for the 3 stars absent, i will add them as the following will change:
1. Biggest one - the app feels like some complicated office organizer. It’s overburdened by buttons, icons and info. For me, a process of keeping a diary is intimate. It needs to be as minimalized as possible, and, if i may, cozy. I imagine it to be something like this: i start making an entry by selecting a photo, which then acts like a background for the entry. So, when i’m typing, i don’t see any interface - only date and the photo in the background. And performance could be better for an app with such simple task.
2. Unicode fonts. Most of the fonts are unavaliable in Russian. For those available, they’re not applying to the entry list menu, instead, there’s just bold helvetica. Also, font does not apply to the text while typing (in russian), only after saving.
3. Icon desing and some other parts sharing it’s color scheme (which is a bit cheesy, btw. In my mind, light blue just doesn’t fit with the idea of a personal journal) feels overflatted. Even Apple, who pushed flat ideas, use complex shadows.
