Awesome App Just Got Better
I was excited when Day One 2 was announced, but it was missing a couple of things I needed from Day One Classic. But sure enough, they are developing and releasing updates constantly. The day they announced IFTTT integration, I bought the app on both Mac and iOS. I think it looks better than the old app (which was also good), it has better encryption thanDropbox and iCloud, you can now have multiple journals, and everything syncs much faster. I can’t find a single aspect of the app that falls behind Day One Classic. They have clearly put a lot of work into this release.
If you look at the negative 1 and 2 star reviews, almost all of them are about the removal of iCloud or Dropbox sync. But there are many benefits to using Day One sync. First, you don’t use up your iCloud or Dropbox storage. The Day One storage is free! I don’t know about everyone else, but I have a lot of data in my Day One journal. Second, as I mentioned before, the encryption is far better than iCloud or Dropbox. In an age where everybody is trying to get your data, this is a huge benefit. Third, I think it is faster. I think Dropbox is pretty fast, but iCloud is certainly not as fast. I would be more concerned about losing my data from iCloud than from Day One as well. If you are worried about syncing to Day One sync, you might want to rethink the benefits. Change happens, and sometimes it is for the better.
This is an awesome app. You don’t need to use any publishing features if you don’t want to. Solid and active developers like Bloom Built are worth supporting.
